SUMMARY

 

This position is responsible for planning and leading afterschool, break week and coordinating the Generation Wild Summer Camp and will report directly to the Program Coordinator and TNC Coordinator.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Responsible for creating and planning the afterschool and break week activities, including physical, educational, and social enrichment for youth ages 6-12 years old
Collaborate with the TNC Leadership Team by implementing and managing the day-to-day operations for the 8-week summer outdoor day camp for youth ages

7-14.

Ensure high quality, safe and consistent indoor and outdoor programs for a diverse population of students.
Responsible for scheduling and coordinating offsite trips.
Responsible for the supervision and discipline of participants during the program.
Leads and monitors all staff assisting with these programs, including high school interns.
Communicates with parents about program activities and schedules.
Responsible for tracking participant attendance and completing accident/incident reports, implementing surveys and any other reports as necessary.
Ensure a clean and safe environment.
Assist in promoting and publicizing the program.
Cares and stores assigned equipment and supplies.
Assist in set-up and take down for the program.
Courteously and consistently enforce all City and Recreation Center regulations and policies and TNC (The Nature Connection) policies.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Leads and evaluates all staff assistants, camp leaders and high school interns.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Thorough knowledge base of recreation facility will be expected through usage of the Recreation Center.
Basic knowledge of general office procedures and methods, including good telephone skills, and ability to operate general office equipment.
Basic knowledge of recreational activities, sports and outdoor recreation.
Knowledge of the care and attending of youth.
Ability to perform data entry.
Possess strong verbal and written communication, math and leadership skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, effective facilitation, conflict resolution, team building and presentation skills. 
Must be able to work with people of all ages and physical abilities.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, community organizations and general public.
Self-starter and problem solver with excellent organizational skills.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

 

High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
A minimum of 2 years of experience leading group activities in formal/informal physical education, childcare, outdoor education or outdoor recreation industry
Outdoor enthusiast:  Experience with outdoor sports like mountain biking paddling boarding, swimming and hiking. 
Experience teaching or mentoring others in physical activity.
The possession or ability to obtain First Aid and CPR/AED within 2 months of hire date.
Required to possess a valid driver’s license and ability to obtain school district minibus license.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

 

Proficient in English, other languages helpful.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

 

Basic math skills.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to sit, stand, walk, pinch, grasp, twist, climb, bend, kneel, reach, pick and perform a wide variety of body movements.
Ability to perform moderate physical work and to lift from 25 to 50 pounds and to occasionally carry up to 50 pounds, depending on activity being performed.
Possess hand/eye and or hand/eye/foot coordination adequate to operate phones, computer and other office equipment.
Ability to see and read instructions.
Ability to observe field/facility conditions.
Ability to hear, see, read and talk in person.
Physical demands: standing, walking and/or physically active outdoors for 5+ hours outside. 
Must be able to pass a swim test.
